Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit expresses his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of India on the tragic train accident which took place on Friday, June 2, in Odisha. More than 250 people lost their lives, while over 1000 got injured in this accident.
At around 7 pm, 10-12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Baleswar and fell on the opposite track. After some time, another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah dashed into those derailed coaches resulting in the derailment of its 3-4 coaches.
PM Roosevelt Skerrit took to the official Twitter account to express his condolences and said, “The Govt and the people of Dominica send heartfelt condolences to the People and the Govt of India on the Tragic Train Accident in Odisha. We share in your grief as you navigate through this difficult time PM Narendra Modi.”
Days after the Odisha triple train tragedy, Railway Board on Sunday citing preliminary investigation said there was some issue with the signaling and only Coromandel Express met with an accident in Balasore that claimed the lives of 275 passengers. Jaya Varma Sinha, Member of Operation and Business Development, Railway Board, addressed the press conference in the national capital. She recounted her conversation with the staff members of the Coromandel and Yeshwanthpur Express trains.
The Indian officials began the rescue operation after the tragic incident. Also, they announced a compensation of INR 10 lakh to the families of the deceased, INR 2 lakhs to those severely damaged and INR 50000 to those who got minor injuries.
Furthermore, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited the accident site in Odisha’s Balasore to inspect and fully support the affected individuals and their families. He said the government would leave no stone unturned to treat those injured. The railway is working toward track restoration.
