The ongoing Asia Cup’s T20 match between India and Pakistan led to disturbance in the UK. The well-organized Muslim gangs have been vandalizing and terrorizing Hindus in the UK’S Leicester city.
Videos of gang escalating attacks on Hindus have been shared on Twitter and are getting viral quickly.
One Twitter user wrote that Gangs are running riots and escalating attacks on Hindus. Innocent Hindus have been terrorized in their properties, attempts to stab, and rampant vandalism of Hindu properties”.
Meanwhile, in response to continued tensions, the local police have implemented special measures to contain the situation.
Several people were filmed making offensive statements amid scenes of violence in the city’s Belgrave area, per a report by LeicestershireLive.
Leicestershire Police said it treated chants made by the men and related violence as ‘hate crimes. Police have initiated particular stop and search and dispersal measures in neighbourhoods of Belgrave, Rushey Mead and Spinney Hills, among others.
Also, dispersal powers under Sections 34 and 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 have been authorized by Chief Superintendent Adam Slonecki, which allows officers to send anyone under the age of sixteen to their home address.
According to local media reports, notices can be issued for up to 48 hours and anyone found breaching a statement is liable to be arrested and face further action.
Besides this, powers have also been granted by a senior officer. Section sixty of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 allows officers to stop and search anyone in a specific area without having reasonable grounds.
Amid all this, an emergency meeting between faith communities has also been called. According to reports, a Leicestershire Police officer was also assaulted during the violence.
Suleman Nagdi, the Federation of Muslim Organisations spokesman, said a meeting would be held with the police and other members to inform people what’s happening and reassure the community that they are taking things seriously.
