Cardiff council recently shared some things to keep in mind this festive season to celebrate the upcoming festivals by not harming the environment.
Cardiff council, in a Facebook update, added that If anyone is planning to get a head start on wrapping presents this year, before buying the wrapping paper, Organization urged citizens to consider an environmentally friendly alternative, as the council is unable to recycle wrapping paper.
Cardiff council informed people that wrapping paper will not be collected from recycling bags or sacks and will need to be put into black bins or bags for collection.
Adding to the update, Wrapping paper often has a very high ink content, has very few fibres left in the paper that is useful for recycling and is often rejected by the companies that sell the product to the paper mills.
Wrapping paper labelled as recyclable will not be accepted either, as there isn’t a way for our crews to distinguish between this product and non-recyclable wrapping paper when it is presented for collection.

Use plain recycled brown paper as it can be recycled and put in the green bags.
Stamper sets can be used to jazz it up and create unique Christmas designs.
The organisation suggested to residents that instead of buying metallic bows and ribbons, make bows from the newspaper and search for tutorials on YouTube to help them perfect the look.
While giving new environmentally friendly ideas, the Cardiff council added that people can present their gifts in gift bags instead and can store them away with the Christmas tree and reuse them year after year.
People offering gifts this festive season could also try their hand at Furoshiki, which is the Japanese art of gift-wrapping using squares of fabric. The fabric can be used again and again.
In order to protect the environment, people can send plain cards without ribbons, special decoratives, embellishments or glitter, as these items can’t be recycled or sent an e-card for Christmas.
