United Kingdom: Seaham High School has established a rewards programme called ‘Going for Gold’; recently, one of the school’s amazing teachers, Miss Douglas participated in that event. She won eight medals in the World Transplant Games held in Perth, Australia.
The school authorities felt proud and said, “While most of us were shaking off the effects of too many Easter eggs, our superstar science teacher Miss Douglas boarded a plane and headed down under to compete in the World Transplant Games in Perth, Australia.”
The games are an international sporting event for athletes who have received organ and stem cell transplants, and to be selected to represent Team GB and NI was a massive honour. Miss Douglas participated in eight events and excelled on the international stage as she did in the science labs back home.
Competing in the 5K Road Race (individual and team), 1500m, 800m, 400m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay and the race walk, Miss Douglas come home with an incredible eight medals, including three Golds, two Silver and three Bronze. Never one to rest on her laurels, Miss Douglas was back in the classroom within days of blowing the competition away.
Everyone at Seaham High School is incredibly proud of her and her outstanding achievements.
Multiple medallist, Miss Douglas told us, “I was delighted with my results, and it has motivated me to keep improving for the next set of competitions.”
“It was an inspirational event to be surrounded by so many people from 47 different countries who were all given a second chance to live their life to the fullest through receiving their special gift of a new organ. A key aim of the event is to create awareness of the significance of organ donation and sharing your wishes around organ donation with your family, a message I would like to share far and wide,” she added.
The Seaham High School will celebrate her success, invite everyone to join, and say, “We hope you will join us in celebrating Miss Douglas’ fantastic achievement”.
