St Kitts and Nevis makes an important move regarding its commitment to the Seniors’ Day Programme, as the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities has announced the successful launch of three new Seniors’ Day Centres.
On Tuesday, July 16, the Ministry during a brief at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sandy Point, announced the establishment of three new Seniors’ Day Centres, namely Tabernacle, Lodge, and Sandy Point.
Isalean Phillip, with responsibility of Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing, and Disabilities addressed the ceremony, expressing with a zeal about the expansion of the Seniors’ Day Programme. She discussed the government’s adherence to the promises made to the senior citizens.

The Seniors’ Day Programme was first actuated on March 20, 2023, across St Kitts in three communities that were St Pauls, Newtown, and St Peters. The programme used to be arranged on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, for the period from 9 am to 2 pm, in St Pauls and St Peters.
Minister Philip underscored the expansion of the programme under the orchestration of Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and the Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley stating, “The expansion of this programme is really a demonstration of the commitment that this administration has, under the leadership of the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew and Deputy Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr Geoffrey Hanley.”
She also added that both are very much caring in terms of when it comes to the seniors and they are very serious about making sure that things are put into places to make sure that all of citizens, especially the seniors in their golden years, are ageing with dignity, well, and actively.

Phillip also highlighted the benefits provided by the programme illustrating that the establishment provides space for the seniors to stay connected, socialize, and to gain access to information in the presence of government representatives.
In these sessions, participants usually engage in several fun and educational activities that include discussions on important topics like healthy eating, financial management, disaster preparedness, diabetes, and many more.
Minister Phillip further acknowledged and appreciated the stakeholders and the organizers who played an important role behind the successful launch of the centres and the implementation of the programme.
