The leader of the Dominica Labour Party, Roosevelt Skerrit, on Thursday, December 1, 2022, attended the candidate launch of Dr Cassandra Williams for the La Plaine Constituency. During the event, Skerrit criticized the oppositon, United Workers Party for creating confusion in the minds of the residents of Dominica by their conduct.
Williams will contest the elections in alignment with the Dominica Labour Party in the General Elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
During the launch event, The Dominica Labour Party leader addressed the attendants urging the people of Delices and the wider La Plaine constituency to support the Labour Party Candidate in the upcomig elections.
The political party hosted the launch event for their candidate at the Carib Junction in Delices, where the longest serving Prime Minister of Dominica revealed that he did not think five days before the polls, he needed to say anything to sway the votes of the citizens and constituents. He revealed that the people accross dominica have heard all they needed to and now is the time of decision.
Rossevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica insisted that The world will be watching Dominica (on election day) next Tuesday, Ladies and Gentlemen. They will be looking to see how mature we are, as a people. They will even be looking to see how civilized we are, as a people.
Following this he reminded the people that elections are conducted worldwide even amid the global social, political and economic meltdown and even the global pandemic. Accordingly, he questioned why the political opposition is treating the situation with Dominica so differently.
He cited examples in the region where elections have taken place, before the expiration of their tenure, and said that even though the oppositions were not ready, they contested the elections. He even stated that in one of the states, (St Kitts and Nevis) the former opposition was able to form a majority government after being honoured with a landslide victory.
Taking this example Skerrit criticized the United Workers Party for boycotting the elections, and denying their supporters the chance to vote for them and make the leaders of the UWP their representatives.
Additionally, he stated that the Labour Party and himself are not responsible for the opposition’s decisions. he called the political party out for registering their opposition through incidents like blocking the roads and burning tyres.
He said, They are feeling defeated. It is now coming home to them, that they have sentenced themselves to five more years in the wilderness.
Skerrit revealed that the problems faced by the opposition is of their own making and that now they are too late.
Finally, he reiterated his appeal for the people to vote for the Lavbour Party Candidate Cassandra Williams and send her to the parliament as their representative. He assured the people that Williams will represent them with dignity and honour
