Roseau, Dominica:Â The prime Minister of Dominica, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, received a courtesy call from the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of Dominica, His Excellency Miguel Manuel Fraga Gonzalez on April 26, 2024, Friday.
Dr Skerrit mentioned on his Facebook official page that he was happy to welcome the Ambassador to Dominica. They reflected on the friendly relations between their two countries for decades and their continued cooperation in health, agriculture, and education.
He also wrote, “Dominica and Cuba are firm friends and we look forward to even closer collaboration in efforts to boost the development and prosperity of our people and countries.”
Earlier in a solemn ceremony held at the Presidential Palace of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Ambassador Miguel Manuel Fraga Gonzalez presented today to the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, H.E. Mrs. Sylvanie Burton, the Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the Commonwealth of Dominica. Â
As part of the ceremony, the Cuban diplomat initiated an exchange of speeches, conveying the greetings of the government and people of Cuba to the government and people of the “island of nature,” as Dominica is also called. Fraga highlighted the excellent relations that exist between both nations, which are based on a history of solidarity and cooperation.Â
He also expressed his gratitude for the Dominican government’s firm condemnation of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on the people of Cuba. For her part, the Dominican President also referred to the progress made in bilateral relations and expressed her gratitude for the cooperation from Cuba, especially in sectors such as health and education.Â
She reiterated that Dominica will continue to support Cuba in international forums and demand an end to the blockade. The meeting concluded after a pleasant exchange between the President and the new Ambassador.Â
The Republic of Cuba and the Commonwealth of Dominica established diplomatic relations on May 18, 1996. Bilateral relations are being developed in different areas, especially cooperation. Since that date, Miguel Fraga has become the sixth Cuban diplomat to hold the post of Ambassador to Dominica.
