St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew attended the first CARICOM summit in Canada. He addressed the sudden climatic conditions that a Tropical storm, which is suspected to have hit St Kitts and Nevis Yesterday, October 19, 2023, at 5 am.
He also ensured people that Deputy PM Hanley had been working on his behalf to cope with the situation.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance is attending a significant first CARICOM Summit in Canada. He said he will leave today, October 20, 2023, to return home to be with his people before this storm hits.
Further, He also shared that NEMA (An advisory body of St Kitts and Nevis) has sent out the necessary updates. He also ensured that Deputy Prime Minister Hanley has been leading as the Prime Minister.
He has been consistently providing preparations to put everything in place. He has also been working to equip people to handle any possible emergencies that may arise to the best of their abilities.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Terrance informed people that he would be home by Friday afternoon, October 20, 2023.
“Be safe! Be prepared,” he asserted.
As per the Post, shared by Prime Minister Dr Terrance, Tropical storm conditions are suspected to strike in the next 48 hours. NEMA has produced some of his reports and urged residents to monitor the situation closely.
He also urged people to be ready to activate their disaster plans if called upon.
Notably, the Government of St Kitts and Nevis has announced the early closure of all schools and all government offices on Friday, October 20, 2023. This decision came after detailed weather advisories from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Several Delegations from the Ministry of Government and Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley have attended a meeting with all their stakeholders to collaborate in mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
