As per the information shared, Operation Python Dance, conducted by the Nigerian Army in 2017, was characterized by excessive force against the Igbo/Biafran and ethnically targeted to eradicate the Igbo people.
This operation was reportedly authorized by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari despite his absence due to illness abroad.
Complicity on the part of Igbo governors, while Army General Buratai initially denied the presence of the military near Afara-Ukwu, a claim later proven false by a competent court.
In an attempt to conceal the atrocities committed by the Nigerian Government, the Nigerian Army proceeded to label the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist group without proper authorization.
The Nigerian Army lacks constitutional authority to make such a designation, especially in the absence of the president, who was abroad and in a coma at the time.
To further legitimize their unlawful actions, the Nigerian Army bypassed any notification to IPOB and sought out a KANGAROO judge to validate their illegitimate activities.
The IPOBI in the UK expressed their concern and wish to put this concern forward to the international community that the ongoing killings of Igbo/Biafran people are extrajudicial.
Further, they shared that even during war, soldiers cannot use lethal force against unarmed combatants. IPOB consists of unarmed civilians, and the process by which the Nigerian Army is declared a terrorist group is fundamentally flawed.
The IPOBI have taken legal action to challenge this decision in court.
They also stated that from the beginning of their struggle, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has consistently emphasized the non-violent nature of IPOB, and this message has been conveyed to world leaders.
“Civil societies mustn’t remain silent regarding the silent genocide taking place in Biafraland (formerly known as Eastern Nigeria),” they continued.
They also called for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the realization of a Biafra Referendum.
