Basseterre, St Kitts: The Government of St Kitts & Nevis on Monday has made an announcement about the procurement of the much required microscope for the Ophthalmic Unit at JNF General Hospital that will soon lead to the resumption of the certain critical eye procedures at the institutions.
Prime Minister, as well as the Minister of Health, Dr Terrance Drew, added on several occasions that the unit requires a new scanner as well as a microscope to carry out certain surgical procedures. The Government has since taken the required steps for addressing the concerns.
Earlier on Monday, PM Dr Drew has paid a visit at the Ophthalmic Unit where the new microscope is now outfitted. He was also accompanied by the Director of the Health Institutions, Dr Jenson Morton, along with the Director of Operations in the Health Ministry, Lindsey Maynard.
Meanwhile, PM Terrance Drew has elaborated the microscope as “a major part of the equipment that is required for eye surgeries.”
He mentioned that, “We know that there are people out there who are partially blind & those who might be completely blind who will benefit from a machine like this as they are able to have their surgical procedures.”
PM Drew said that this is another measure taken by administration for the improvement of overall delivery of healthcare services, mentioning that, “This is all part of our efforts of improving our outreach to our people and for satisfying the medical requirements of the people here of the Federation.”
At the same time, Prime Minister Terrance Drew extended thanks to the staff of the Ophthalmic Unit “for their hard work and dedication for ensuring that in short order we can start these types of surgical procedures once again for serving our people here in the Federation.”
