UK: The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, RSPB, has announced the Nature Neighbourhood initiative. Under this Initiative, the UK Government will provide the funding of over £1m to tackle the natural crises affecting the local species.
RSPB is a Charity and Nonprofit organisation that works for the promotion and protection of natural species of birds.
Nature Neighbourhoods is a brand-new UK-wide initiative launched.Â
This Initiative aims to work locally, focusing on urban areas and funding worth £1.05 m. It will support community groups to stand up for nature on their doorsteps.
As per the RSPB, The provided funding will support 18 community organisations from across the country to:
- Look at the local root causes of the natural crisis
- Bring together local neighbourhoods and decision-makers
- Create a people-powered nature plan for their area
This has all come out of the Peoples Plan For Nature, which called for more community investment to help protect and renew nature.
The Initiative is funded by a £750k Climate Action Fund grant from The National Lottery Community Fund. It is the largest community funder in the UK, and £300,000 from Co-op and on-the-ground support from their members.Â
This Initiative is also supported by various Natural charities and nonprofit organisations, including RSPB, WWF-UK and the National Trust through their “Save Our WildIsles partnership”.
The RSPB extended their pleasure and excitement to get Nature Neighbourhoods off the ground. “can’t wait to see the invaluable work it will empower groups across the UK to do,” they asserted.
Reportedly, Nature Neighbourhoods will primarily focus on urban communities across the UK, with projects in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This Initiative is taken to help the local communities around the United Kingdom to bring down some positive changes in nature.Â
Under this Initiative, the Government has funded over 18 charitable and Nonprofit organisations in the United Kingdom. This initiative mobilises their communities and leads positive change for nature and people by creating Nature Neighbourhood Plans. The Nature Neighbourhoods project will deliver a two-year support programme for partners, financial aid of up to £25,000 per neighbourhood, and support for building collaborations with local authorities.Â
