UK: PM Rishi Sunak welcomes major deal for Airbus & Rolls-Royce to provide new aircraft to Air India

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, welcomed a significant deal for Airbus and Rolls-Royce in order to provide new aircraft for Air India. As per an official statement, the deal will support and create highly skilled jobs in Derbyshire and Wales and help boost exports and the economy.

The Department for International Trade of the UK stated in a press release that Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Business, as well as Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch, have welcomed a significant deal for Airbus & Rolls-Royce to provide new aircraft for Air India, which they said is worth billions of pounds to the UK.

The press release further added that a major portion of the manufacturing procedure for the new aircraft is anticipated to be held in the UK. The aerospace sector of the UK added £10.6bn in value to the United Kingdom economy in 2021 and employed around 111,000 high-skilled people.

PM Rishi Sunak added that the Air India deal with Airbus & Rolls-Royce shows sky is the limit for the aerospace sector of the UK. He said that it would create better-paid jobs and new opportunities in manufacturing hubs from Wales to Derby, so they could grow the economy and support the agenda to level up, which would further help to deliver on his five priorities for the nation.

Kemi Badenoch – UK Business and Trade Secretary, called it a major win for the aerospace sector of the UK. Badenoch highlighted that the UK is presently negotiating a trade deal with India which could strengthen trade by up to £28 billion annually by the year 2035.

He added that the government is presently negotiating a trade deal with India which will boost trade to around £28 billion a year by 2035. He said that such export wins are another major step for countries forming a closer trading relationship.
