United Kingdom: The Member of Parliament for Aberconwy, North Wales, Robin Millar, shared the update concerning the meeting of local police and council officers with Home Office officials in Aberconwy as part of the consultation over whether Marle Hall is suitable as a Home Office facility for accommodating asylum seekers.
In the update, MP Millar said, “Our local police and council officers were due to meet with Home Office officials yesterday (Monday) in Aberconwy as part of the consultation over whether Marle Hall is suitable as a Home Office facility for accommodating asylum seekers.”
He said that the Home Office cancelled the meeting, and they are now waiting for further communication from them. While they were voting late yesterday evening, the MP spoke with Immigration Minister Robert Jenrick MP.
Robin Millar said, “He can’t get personally involved with the hundreds of different sites across the UK used by the Home Office (and the many others being considered).”
He said he encouraged MP Robert to know about Marle Hall, its location on the edge of Llandudno, it is setting, and the challenges and added, “Clearly, he remembered the things we had spoken about last week and the letters he has received.”
He said that he took the chance to repeat concerns on suitability and relay to him the range of comments he has received from him over the last few days.
“So, to be clear, no one has moved into the Hall yet. No decision has been made confirming the site as a facility – that formal consultation is still in process with Home Office officials. I’ll keep you posted here with any developments,” said the Member of Parliament.
In his conclusion, he asked his followers to contact him with their comments, questions or concerns and said, “I read them all, and it gives me a perfect picture so I can represent that to the Minister directly.”
