United Kingdom: British Conservative Party Politician and Member of Parliament for the High Peak Constituency Robert Largan visited the United Utilities Sewage Works. It is Located at Charley Lane between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley on Friday, October 26, 2023.
At United Utilities Sewage Works, he met the High Peak Borough Councillor, Keth Sizeland. They have been campaigning for improved water quality in their local rivers.
MP Robbie and Councillor Kath also demanded a meeting with the Chief Executive of United Utilities to put pressure on the water company to do more.
He highlighted the water issue and added, “This is an issue I care about deeply. 2 years ago, along with several other MPs, I helped pass a new law placing a new legal duty on water companies to stop discharging sewage into our rivers and waterways.”
Further, MP Robert also shared that as part of the new requirements for water companies, United Utilities is currently working on a £ 12 million investment project at the Charley Lane site. The project has been under construction to increase capacity and help end sewage discharges into the rivers.
He extended his pleasure and shared that It was good to learn more about the project and see progress in the construction.
“I’m passionate about protecting our environment and enhancing the water quality in our rivers,” MP Robert Asserted.
He also ensured people are making real progress on the project, “there’s lots more to do. That’s why I’ll keep engaging with both United Utilities and Severn Trent to push them to go further faster,” he said.
Reportedly, the High Peak Borough Councillor, Keth, also extended her pleasure to have an interesting tour of the sewage works on Charley Lane.
“I’m pleased to say they are doubling the capacity of effluent that can be treated there after we’ve been having meetings with EA and United Utilities going back years,” she added.
Councillor Keth shared that the pipes going into the works will be bigger, and they won’t have the overflow into the river from the chambers at the side of Charley Lane.
