UK: Boris Johnson arrives at Balmoral to meet Queen for his official resignation

Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom arrives at Balmoral to meet Queen Elizabeth for his official resignation as PM of the United Kingdom.

Queen Elizabeth received the former Prime Minister of Britain. This will be shortly followed by an audience with the new prime minister, Liz Truss.

It will be a private meeting, and what gets said will likely remain a secret.

It has become a tradition for a former prime minister’s partner and children to be invited to meet the Monarch following their resignation.

Johnson is accompanied by his wife, Carrie, but they seem to have left their two children home.

The ceremonial event is known as “kissing hands”. The change in the tradition of organizing the meeting in Scotland rather than London reflects the health of the 96-year-old Queen.

And was taken ahead of time to adapt to the possibility she may experience what the palace has described as an episodic mobility issue.

The authorities came to this conclusion to avoid any last-minute problems and rearrangements.

Today Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce his resignation to the Queen Monarch and shortly appoint his successor Liz Truss.

Before taking their final trip, Boris Johnson will make a statement outside Downing Street. After that, Monarch formally discharges them from their role.

Newly elected leader of the conservative party and Prime Minister of the UK Liz Truss, Both Boris Johnson and Liz Truss will meet Queen Elizabeth and ask her for her permission.

The change of the meeting venue does not make any constitutional distinction. The meeting in Balmoral does not make any difference, but it may raise questions about the Ninety-six-year-old Queen.

Queen Elizabeth took her customary summer break in Scotland with her family. She usually stays at the mansion from August to October.
