UK: Andrew Osborne from Rutland completes solo across Atlantic Ocean, shares MP Alicia Kearns
United Kingdom: Alicia Kearns- Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom from the Conservative Party, shared the story of Andrew Osborne, from Rutland, who arrived safely in Antigua yesterday after successfully completing his incredible solo and unsupported row across the Atlantic Ocean.
On 8 January, Andrew set off to row over 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, and after 78 days at sea, he completed this impressive journey raising money in loving memory of his youngest daughter Amy.
Amy devastatingly died in her sleep at the age of just 25 from an undiagnosed heart condition. Amy’s family set up Amy’s Memorial Fund at the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young to fund the testing of people aged 14 to 35 for this condition, ensuring that no family has to go through the pain of losing a child like Amy.
Twelve healthy children and fit young adults die per week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions, and, like Amy, 80% don’t experience any symptoms. We must do more to reduce this number, and Andrew has done the most amazing job at raising awareness of young sudden cardiac death and the importance of screening through this challenge.
Andrew has so far raised over £140,000 which will go towards the testing of pupils in schools across Rutland and Leicestershire for undiagnosed heart conditions.
Cardiac Risk in the Young assit the people who want to start their journey. Earleir, over 200 people have now registered for the 2023 CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk. They asked people to Join them on Sunday 25th June for a day to connect with others & remember those who have died from Young Sudden Cardiac Death.
The application form for The 2023 Royal Parks Half Marathon is now open. People can join team CRY on 8th October, to run through four of London’s royal parks, as well as other iconic sights and landmarks in central London.
