Taipei, Taiwan: Foxconn – the major Apple Inc supplier, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, said it was seeking cooperation in India in various new areas such as electric vehicles and chips after a brief visit to the nation by Liu Young-way – the chairman of the company. Apple has been continuously shifting production away from China after the strict COVID-19 restrictions of the country, and tensions between Beijing and Washington disrupted the manufacturing of new models of iPhones and other devices.
In January 2023, the trade minister of India stated that Apple, which started iPhone assembly in the nation in 2017 via Wistron Corp and then Foxconn, wants India to account for around 25% of its production from about 5% to 7% presently.
The world’s largest contract electronic maker – Foxconn in Taiwan, formally known as the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd- stated that Liu had visited India from February 27 to March 4.
In a brief statement, Liu stated that his trip this week supported the efforts of Foxconn to deepen partnerships, meet old friends, make new ones, and seek cooperation in new areas such as electric vehicles and semiconductor development.
The Apple supplier company, Foxconn, has various ambitious plans to make EVs and is also looking forward to making chips.
Liu stated that based on sharing, partnering and thriving together, Foxconn would continue to communicate with local governments to get the most beneficial development opportunities for the company as well as stakeholders.
He didn’t mention any new factual investment plans in the nation, and Foxconn has not yet announced any since his trip to India.
Soon, apple’s iPhones will start getting assembled at another place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, and 300 acres of land have been kept aside to set up a factory, reported the state government on Friday. Presently, iPhones are assembled in India by at least three of Apple’s worldwide suppliers, including Pegatron and Foxconn in Tamil Nadu and Wistron in Karnataka.
