St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulated St Vincent and the Grenadines on their 44th Anniversary of Independence Yesterday, October 27, 2023.
He marked the Independence Day of St Vincent and the Grenadines through his official Facebook Caption Yesterday. He stated, “I extend heartfelt congratulations to St. Vincent and the Grenadines as they celebrate their Independence Day today, October 27.”
“Happy 44th Anniversary of Independence”, Prime Minister Terrance continued.
Reportedly, St. Vincent and the Grenadines was the last Windward Island to gain Independence from the United Kingdom on October 27, 1979. The green diamonds in the Country’s flag are shaped in a ‘V’ to symbolise Vincent.
The gems define the 32 islands and cays as the “Gem of the Antilles.” The blue symbolises the sky and sea. The gold means warmness, the spirit of the individuals and the golden sands of the Grenadines.
The green colour represents the dense vegetation of St Vincent’s agriculture and the vitality of the people.
Great Britain granted Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Associate Statehood status on 27 October 1969. This Statehood gave SVG complete control over its internal affairs but fell short of full Independence by law.
On 27 October 1979, however, SVG was granted full Independence status. This date is now a Public Holiday celebrated as the country’s Independence Day.
This Year, St Vincent and the Grenadines marked their anniversary on Friday under the theme, “Our Resilience, our Fortitude, our People, our Identity… Road to 45”.
The Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, also extended his pleasure and pride to mark the 44th Independence Day Celebrations of the Nation.
He addressed the Military Parade at Victoria Park Yesterday to mark the Special Day of their 44th Independence for St Vincent and Grenadines.
