St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended his deepest condolences to the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Morocco and their families who were deeply affected by the powerful earthquake that struck Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains on Friday night, September 8, 2023.
As per the Update, On Friday, September 8, 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, causing colossal damage and destruction to people’s lives. The earthquake has hugely affected several provinces of Morocco, including Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended his heartfelt condolences and support to the people of the Kingdom of Morocco.
In an open letter to King Mohammed VI, he wrote on behalf of the OECS Authority and extended his deep regret for this sad occurrence. He also extended his deep, heartfelt condolences on the tragic loss of life to those injured and wished them a speedy recovery.
“At this time of great difficulty, the OECS Authority assures the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco, particularly the victims’ families, of its solidarity and prayerful consideration,” he noted.
Further, Prime Minister Dr Terrance also spoke to the Ambassador of Eastern Caribbean States to the Kingdom of Morocco and was informed that all the people are safe.
The Prime Minister also extended his support and help to the people and the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco. He also assured them about their long-term relationship with the St Kitts and Nevis and asserted, “Our hearts are with the people of Morocco.”
Reportedly, On the Tragic loss of the people of Morocco, the Four Lincolnshire firefighters and a rescue dog are joining the UK’s rescue efforts in Morocco following the devastating earthquake.
Darren Burchnall, Ben Clarke, Karl Keuneke and Neil Woodmansey, with Colin, the rescue dog, have arrived in Morocco and will carry out search and rescue roles with the UK International Search and Rescue team.
