The historic streets of Lincoln were filled with spooky cheer as hundreds of residents and visitors took part in the Strolling Bones Skeleton Parade on Thursday, transforming the city into a lively Halloween spectacle.
Organised by Visit Lincoln, the event took place at 12:00, 14:00, and 16:00 GMT in the city’s Cathedral Quarter and Bailgate area, attracting families, tourists, and costume enthusiasts eager to join the fun.
The parade featured an eerie yet playful lineup of giant skeleton puppets, musicians, and performers on stilts, all making their way through Lincoln’s cobbled streets. Local bands added to the festive atmosphere, while members of the public were encouraged to don their own spooky costumes and march alongside the performers.
“The Strolling Bones Parade is about celebrating community and creativity,” said a spokesperson for Visit Lincoln. “We wanted people of all ages to get involved, make their own costumes, and have fun while showcasing the city’s vibrant spirit.”
Many families took the opportunity to create their own homemade skeleton outfits, turning the event into a colorful and inclusive gathering. Children waved glow sticks and rattled toy bones as the performers danced to upbeat Halloween tunes, captivating the crowd.
Local businesses also embraced the spirit of the day, with cafés and shops along Bailgate decorating their windows with pumpkins, cobwebs, and ghostly figures. Several restaurants offered themed treats and hot drinks to keep spectators warm throughout the afternoon festivities.
Spectators described the event as a “magical and community-driven experience.” Lincoln resident Claire Matthews, who attended with her children, said, “It’s not just about Halloween; it’s about everyone coming together to celebrate. The energy, the costumes, the music—it’s all incredible.”
The Strolling Bones Skeleton Parade has quickly become a seasonal highlight in Lincoln’s event calendar, drawing both locals and visitors for its mix of artistry, humor, and family entertainment.
Visit Lincoln officials said they hope to expand the event in future years, possibly including evening performances with illuminated displays to enhance the Halloween atmosphere even further.
As the final parade concluded at 16:00, applause and laughter echoed through the Cathedral Quarter—marking yet another successful celebration of creativity, community, and Halloween spirit in Lincoln.
