Scotland: The Meteorological Office has issued a flood alert across Ayrshire and Arran along with a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms in Ayrshire. The Warning is valid till midnight of May 9, 2023.

Heavy thundery showers are likely across the area from late afternoon and into Wednesday evening. These could cause some flooding impacts from surface water and some smaller rivers. The heaviest showers will be localized, so not all areas will be affected.

Impacts may include flooding to urban areas and the transport network with difficult driving conditions and disruption to travel.

The Met Office advised people to be vigilant and remember that it is their responsibility to take actions that help protect themselves and their property.

Advice and information are also available via Floodline on 0345 9881188. This FLOOD ALERT is now in force till further notice by met office and was sent by phone as well as sms free of charge to registered customers of the Floodline direct warning service.

“If you have not already signed up to receive free flood messages, please call Floodline or register online at sepa.org.uk/floodingsignup. Your Floodline quick dial number for this area is 24200,” added the Met Office.

Furthermore, the yellow Warning for thunderstorms has been issued across Ayrshire, valid from 17:00 until 23:00 today. Heavy showers, with a chance of thunderstorms, may lead to localized disruption.

Heavy showers, some perhaps thundery with a chance of hail in a few spots, are expected to move eastwards across parts of Scotland this evening. Rainfall totals of 15 to 30 mm are possible in an hour or two in a few places.

People are asked to stay safe, look out to protect their family and loved ones, and not go out until necessary. The flood warning will remain in effect across Ayrshire and Arran until further notice from the Met Office.
