Saint Lucia:Â Prime Minister Philip J Pierre met with Sergey Petrovich, Ambassador of the Russian Federation, accredited to Saint Lucia, earlier on Wednesday. Both of them discussed several aspects of strengthening their relationship and looked forward to undertake advancement in their region.
In an extensive social media handle on Wednesday, PM Pierre shared an image with Ambassador Petrovich to extend a warm welcome to him.Â
He further also mentioned strengthening and enhancing their ties for the future and said, “Our future engagements will aim to develop areas of social and economic cooperation that will provide opportunities for the advancement of our people.”
He highlighted that Saint Lucia and the Russian Federation established diplomatic relations in 2004.
Meanwhile, several users on social media applauded the relationship both have shared over the two decades. A user named Linus Boodhoo said in the comment section, “MrPrime Minister, you are the leader. Please lead the way and continue to open up relationships.”
 “Well done, sir!!” the other user mentioned.
Notably, Sergey Petrovich Botkin is one of the coryphaei of Russian medicine. He played a prominent role in the formation and development of Russian clinical medicine and became the founder of Russia’s most well-known therapeutic school.
The Russian Federation and Saint Lucia developed and strengthened their relations in the interest of peace and cooperation among people based on mutual respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, principles of non-interference, non-use of force or threat of force, peaceful settlement of disputes and other universally recognised principles and norms of international law that are enshrined, in particular, in the charter of the United Nations.Â
From January to May of 2017, more than 100 Russians gained citizenship in Saint Lucia and applied to the country’s migration service.Â
As per the reports, the government is attracted by the simple conditions for obtaining a passport, low requirements for applicants, and minimal terms in this country.
