Saint Lucia: The prime minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, expressed his grief over the ones who lost their lives during a recent incident of gang violence which took place during the Easter weekend. The island nation witnessed four homicides over the weekend.
Four homicides occurred over the weekend during the holy days as there were fewer police officers in the Vieux-Fort area. The deceased included Two persons in the Mang, Tara Joseph, 47, aka Lucess and her grandson, Kentrell Joseph, two years old; one male in Cedars Heights and on Sunday, another 47-year-old Nicole Charles of Bruceville was killed.
PM Philip J Pierre expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He said, “The residents and citizens of Bruceville in Vieux Fort, like every other community on the island of Saint Lucia, are made up of men and women who want the best for their children. It is a community comprised of young people who aspire to live happy & fulfilled lives among each other.”
“As we mourn and seek justice for the ones who have lost their loved ones to this brutal and senseless gang violence, let us also resolve to be a more compassionate society. We can and must do better; Saint Lucia is our home,” the PM added.
While calling the brutal crime senseless, PM Pierre is concerned and is expected to hold meetings with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force to boost the security system and apply ways through which gang violence could be limited.
Furthermore, several people took to social media to appreciate the prime minister for staying at the forefront when the citizens needed him the most.
“Lord blesses and Protect our Prime Minister, his cabinet, and the Police Officers AMEN,” wrote a user named Marie Frederick.
“Great initiative, PM Pierre; it’s always good to lead from the front. Your presence in Bruceville speaks loud as to who you are,” wrote Sammy Brice.
