Saint Lucia’s sensational sprinter Julien Alfred achieved the fastest time in the world this year with 6.99 seconds in the 60 meters held at the Millrose Games in New York on Sunday. Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire extended his pride and congratulated the athlete on marking this remarkable achievement.
Taking to his official social media handle, PM Hilaire added, “Julien Alfred. That’s it. That’s all. What a proud day to be from Castries South and to be Saint Lucian”.
Meanwhile, several community people extended their warm blessings and congratulated actress Alfred for making the nation proud. A user named Yolanda Stanilsalous Smith added, “She did it all by herself. Way to go, Miss Alfred. Congrats. The sky is the limit. Next Olympic gold medalist.”
“Congratulations to Julien Alfred on her sterling performance. A total and absolute vindication for Shawn Edward!” another user, Austina Fanus, added.
Another user, Margarita La Force, said, “Congratulations, young lady, my grandson Simmion would be very proud of you, bravo”.
According to the information, Alfred’s achievement broke the 7.01 run by Ewa Swoboda in Poland. Earlier, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, also congratulated the sprinter.
“As we countdown to Independence 45, Julien Alfred continues to inspire us as Saint Lucians. Join me in congratulating Ms. Alfred on her latest win, 6.99 seconds in the 60M at Millrose Games, breaking the record of 7.00 seconds set in 1994,” he added.
Previously, Alfred also emerged as Victorus at the Dr Martin Luther King Collegiate Invitational, the 15th fastest indoor 200m run of all time. The Championship was held in Albuquerque, Mexico, on January 20.
She reserved herself in the first spot after completing her run with a record-breaking 22.28 seconds. This achievement successfully placed them ahead of her two closest competitors, including Rhasidat Adeleke from Ireland with a time 22.49s and Micayah Holland from America with 23.48s.
In 2023, Alfred emerged as champion in the NCAANational Collegiate Athletics Association) sprinter after successfully concluding the year with a sprint double title.
