Date:

The Russian army is coming up against stiff resistance from Ukrainian troops in the eastern Donbas region, according to information from the United Kingdom.

The British Ministry of Defence indicated on Sunday, in its daily intelligence update, that the Ukrainians had beaten back many attacks and inflicted considerable damage on the Russian army, according to the reports.

No other details were provided.

Ukraine itself has indicated that it repelled 12 Russian attacks in the Donbas region in 24 hours and destroyed four tanks and five artillery systems, among others. None of the information could be independently verified.

Despite the Ukrainian resistance, Russia has succeeded in gaining a bit of ground.

According to British sources, the effectiveness of the Russian army is probably limited by the low morale of its soldiers and the limited time it has had to reorganise and rearm the troops after preceding offensives.
