Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Friday the expulsion of six British diplomats, accusing them of espionage and activities threatening national security. This decision marks a significant escalation in diplomatic tensions between Moscow and London.
According to the FSB, the expulsion is a retaliatory measure against what Russia describes as a series of unfriendly acts by the British government.

The Russian Foreign Ministry echoed the FSB’s claims, with spokeswoman Maria Zakharova supporting the assessment and accusing the British Embassy in Moscow of violating the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Zakharova stated that the British diplomats had overstepped their diplomatic roles and were involved in activities aimed at undermining Russian interests.
In response, Russian state television broadcast images of the expelled diplomats, identifying them by name and showing footage of their departure from the country.
