United Kingdom: Welsh Labour Member of Parliament for Pontypridd, Alex Davies-Jones, announced the activities she would be undertaking in the United Kingdom Parliament this week. She took to Facebook to tell her supporters the following:

On Monday, MP Alex Davies-Jones will attend a special flag-raising ceremony in Parliament to celebrate Commonwealth Day. She said, “This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our international connections with 2.4bn people. As a commonwealth, we gain and draw benefit from vast interconnected networks of mutual support and collaboration globally.”

Later that afternoon, she’ll speak at a Labour Women’s Network to discuss misogyny as part of a string of events to mark Women’s History Month.

She’ll speak at the Public Sector Innovation Conference on a panel discussing Digital Leaders on Tuesday. “As Shadow Tech and Digital Minister, I know how crucial it is for the UK to embrace game-changing technologies like AI, edge computing and quantum computing,” said the MP.

While explaining how her Wednesday will be, Alex Davies-Jones said it is a busy day for her as not only will it see PMQs at noon as normal, but it’s also ‘budget day’ in Westminster, where the Chancellor sets out the UK Government’s economic plan for the coming months.

“After the sheer incompetence and chaos we’ve seen from this Tory Government in recent months, not least the last 13 years, I sincerely hope that the Chancellor announces meaningful policies to reduce people’s energy bills and reduce the impact of the cost-of-living crisis for vulnerable people. I’m not holding my breath,” highlighted the MP for Pontypridd.

Also, on Wednesday, she’ll be in the Chamber for her first-ever participation in quizzing the new Science, Innovation and Tech (SIT) Department on their work. “Tune in from 11.30 to watch Secretary of State Michelle Donelan held to account,” said the MP.

Between the budget, PMQs and SIT questions, on Wednesday, the MP will also be participating in two Public Bill Committees to support two proposed laws that colleagues from across Parliament have proposed.

The Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committees Bill will provide important modernising changes to the law around veterans’ pensions, whilst the Firearms Bill will tighten regulations for people possessing ammunition. These Bills, both proposed by MPs rather than the UK Government, have her full support.

On Thursday, Alex Davies-Jones will be spending the day with the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, designed to boost MPs’ awareness of the work of HM Forces.

On Friday, she’ll be back in the House of Commons Chamber to proudly support another piece of legislation proposed by a fellow MP rather than the UK Government – the Trophy Hunting (Import Prohibition) Bill. “Trophy Hunting is a barbaric excuse for a ‘sport’, and I support all efforts to end its practice,” said the MP.
