Ayrshire, Scotland – To enhance operational efficiency and provide a more modern working environment, Police Scotland has announced its move to Newton House as the new premises for Ayrshire Police. The transition will involve relocating officers and staff from the current building on King Street to the upgraded facility.
Located less than half a mile away from the previous location, Newton House will gradually become the central hub for policing in Ayrshire starting from Tuesday, May 9.
The new public counter at Newton House has already been opened to ensure a seamless transition for the local community. In contrast, the old King Street public counter will remain operational until the complete move is finalized on Friday, May 12.
The entire building of Newton House has been internally refurbished to cater to the needs of modern policing. The renovation aims to create a more functional and contemporary workspace, ultimately improving the officers’ and staff’s well-being and morale.
This strategic relocation aligns with Police Scotland’s commitment to providing effective policing services that meet the community’s demands.
Ayrshire Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain, expressed his thoughts on the move, stating, “Ayrshire Police Station in King Street is a beloved establishment that has served as a cornerstone for delivering policing services in Ayrshire for nearly half a century, since its opening in May 1975.
However, the building is no longer equipped to meet the requirements of modern policing, and relocating nearby is a cost-effective solution that allows officers to remain in the community.”
The selection of Newton House as the new location for Ayrshire Police Station was made in collaboration with the South Ayrshire Council, highlighting the strong working relationship between the two entities.
Newton House facilitates enhanced partnership efforts and contributes to reducing the expenses associated with maintaining inadequate public sector buildings.
Chief Superintendent Hussain added, “The move to Newton House signifies a significant improvement in the working environment for our dedicated officers and staff. Additionally, we are committed to maintaining an accessible public counter to ensure continued engagement with the local community.”
The positive reception from elected members in the area reflects the understanding that the move will uphold the high standard of service provided in Ayr and the surrounding towns, villages, as well as communities.
