PM Terrance Drew travels to Brussels to participate in EU-CELAC Summit

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and Minister of Sustainable Development, Dr Joyelle Clarke arrived at the EU-CELAC two day summit in Brussels for the opening session. Here EU and CELAC Leaders presented their opening speeches.

PM Terrance Drew took to his official Facebook account to share a brief piece of information about the first day of EU-CELAC. He mentioned that the first day of the EU-CELAC Summit had concluded, and it was quite eventful.

The summit is an opportunity to strengthen the partnership further and discuss how to achieve fair green and digital transitions together.

Additionally, Dr Terrance Drew extended that Foreign Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and Minister of Sustainable Development Dr Joyelle Clarke discussed key matters of interest that impacts the region and sought effective resolutions.

Furthermore, The high-level issues which were discussed at EU-CELAC Summit include:

  • The current situation in Haiti
  • Financial and economic assistance to address the climate fallout
  • The embargo on Cuba

Regarding this, Dr Terrance Drew also expressed that he will further offer his intervention on these topics.

According to the sources, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminita Odobesçu, spoke on the potential for strengthened cooperation between both countries Ministers of Foreign Affairs on the opening ceremony of the 3rd EU-CELAC Summit in Brussels on Monday 17th July 2023.

Meanwhile, President Charles Michel emphasises a speech voluntarily at the opening ceremony of the EU-CELAC summit. He said, “It’s a pleasure to welcome you all to Brussels and to return your warm hospitality from the last two summits I had the privilege to participate in – in Mexico and Argentina. ”

President Charles Michel extended thanks to the current and former presidents of CELAC, Prime Minister Gonsalves and President Fernandez, for our close cooperation in setting the stage for a successful summit.

Senior Minister and Minister for International Trade, Foreign Affairs, Industry, Commerce, Economic Development and Investment, Dr Denzil Douglas, participated in two Global Gateway round tables before the start of the 3rd EU-CELAC Summit scheduled in Brussels from July 17 to July 18, 2023.
