The first consultative activity for the construction of a new climate-smart hospital was held on July 22, 2024, at the JN France General Hospital in presence of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of health, Dr Terrance Drew along with the Taiwan-based Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC).
The discussion was the initiation of a significant Hospital Planning session that will continue for the week. The session is focused on the Development of the new JNF General Hospital as a climate-smart hospital. This will aim to hold up an ideal healthcare facility for the residentiary of St Kitts and Nevis.
Discussions had started on Monday 22nd July, with the planning board rounding up experts to collate views and ideas from key personnel about what was required for a new hospital. Various critical departments including the Outpatient, Imaging, Emergency Services, Laboratory Services, Renal Care/Dialysis Palliative care Agents Oncology/Hematology Service Radiation Therapy services etc. shall be covered.

This was the opening session for a two-day of Hospital Planning hosted by PM Terrance Drew. He reiterated the strategic scope of times cycle climate smarter hospital and an overall improved healthcare delivery to Federation, as well as implementation in all around the region.
“We want the best for our citizens, and we should ensure that this facility is state of the art, both to meet current healthcare challenges but also to preempt future ones. The hospital would be a centre of excellence and innovation for the Caribbean,” PM Drew said.
The Prime Minister stated that the Ministry of Health and OECC would continue to work with a wide range of people in order to obtain as many opinions as possible and recommendations.
This comprehensive process, he explained, guarantees that the new JNF hospital will be a world-class patient care facility designed to meet industry best practices in patient centered clinical treatment environments and operating efficiency while at the same time being operationally responsive and environmentally sustainable.
The planning work will follow on throughout the week with a roadmap to build and operate the new hospital. The Ministry of Health acknowledged the presence of all the participants in the session, also expressing gratitude for their valuable insights.
