Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre thanked the communities of Castries for successfully carrying the Independence Baton Relay on Thursday. He shared some glimpses of his visit to the constituency and shared that the event contributed a major role to the nation’s rich tapestry.
“Thank you to the people of Castries East for always being the wind beneath my wings. Yesterday, we carried the Independence Baton through our constituency, celebrating the many who have contributed and those who will add to our rich tapestry.
Our journey ended in Babonneau and we wish them all the best on their leg through the Constituency,” he noted on his official social media handle.
As per the information, this 45th Independence Baton Relay is a part of Saint Lucia’s Independence Celebrations. The Baton relay was disclosed in Castries South leg on Monday, while the celebrations of the Independence season began on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
PM Pierre joined the celebrations with the constituency children on the streets of Castries South and encouraged everyone to immerse themselves in the celebrations of the nation’s 45th Independence.
Meanwhile, the communities on social media expressed their zeal and supported the Prime Minister in marking the events as successful. A user on social media said, “So proud of u Mr Pierre..keep up the good work” while another user said the event was amazing. “It was an amazing event,” he added.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire also encouraged the communities by joining them on the streets on the first day of the Baton Relay, earlier on Sunday in Castries South.
Marking the event, Deputy PM Hilaire Said, “Today, we kicked off the Castries South leg of the 45th Independence Baton relay in Marigot. Activities like these continue to build a sense of community and belonging and we must always encourage participation from everyone.
