Saint Lucia defeated Grenada at the finals of the Windward Islands Women’s T20 Tournament held on Saturday, 17th February 2024 at La Sagesse, Grenada. Prime Minister Philip J Pierre paid warm greetings to the team for their remarkable performance.
He took to his official Facebook handle to mark the significant achievement for the nation and noted, “Congratulations Team Saint Lucia on your victory at the Windward Islands Women’s T20 Tournament. You are now the Champions of not just T20 but also the Super 50 Cricket Tournament won earlier this month.”
Further, he also said, that this victory has added up glimmers to the celebrations of the 45th Independence anniversary of the nation. “we are proud of you! Congratulations once again,” he quoted.
Notably, as per the Windwards Cricket Association, The Saint Lucians have done the double and won both the Super 50 and T20 segments of this year’s championship.
They shared that this was a tournament of excellence with both bat and ball. Saint Lucia has demonstrated levels of determination, character and perseverance to which no other team could compare.
The match took off the fields of Grenada with a fresh start and the toss was won by Saint Lucia, who chose to bat first. The team was restricted by Grenada and made it up to 141 runs, with Qiana Joseph played a crucial innings of 48 runs in 28 balls.
Kenson Casimir- the Minister of Youth Development and Sports and the Parliamentary Representative for the Gros Islet Constituency also extended congratulations to the team.
“Congratulations to team Saint Lucia. Champions of Windward Islands T20 Senior Female Cricket Tournament. Our ladies went tour the entire tournament undefeated,” he noted on his official social media handle.
Meanwhile, the communities on social media also presented their warm congratulations to the team for marking the double victory. A user identified as Jackey Ingles, said, “Congratulations Team!!! Congratulations. To the skipper!!!! Zaida James. I am super proud of you!!!”.
Another user, Karya Defraites, commended the sports sector of the nation and said, “We trending big in the sports world continue to support Kenson Bay Bay Casimir”.
