Nepal: PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda seeks India’s help in researching Ayurveda

The Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, is seeking for Indian government’s help in the research as well as exploration of Ayurveda in the Himalayan country. Prachanda stated that his government is set to promote health tourism by boosting Ayurveda and taking decisions to systematise the exports and imports of essential medicinal herbs.

The PM of Nepal vowed to make the oldest company of Nepal manufacturing ayurvedic medicines, Singhdurbur Vaidyakhana, vibrant and update it as a national pride project.

The Nepal PM stated during the inauguration of the 7th International Ayurveda Congress on Friday that the policy decisions would be taken, bearing in mind the requirement to completely operate the National Ayurveda Research and Training Centre and boost research on indigenous herbs.

The PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda added that the government is working on a policy to launch a centre to manufacture Ayurvedic medicines and process and collect medicinal herbs in each of the seven provinces.

The prime minister sought cooperation from the Ministry of Ayush of India to help Nepal in the Ayurveda area. The Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, also attended the event which started on Friday. He said the Indian government has prioritised and promoted Ayurveda by establishing the Ministry of Ayush.

He added that a few initiatives have already been taken to forge cooperation and partnership between the two nations to promote Ayurveda and naturopathy and also to develop medicinal herbs.

It was reported that Nepal PM Prachanda vowed that steps would be taken to remove hurdles in the exports and imports of the most important medicinal herbs to ease the manufacturing of Ayurvedic medicines.

According to sources, PM Prachanda said conditions would be made to export medicinal herbs and assured government grants for farming herbs.

While outlining the requirement to establish more Ayurvedic hospitals, wellness clinics, and yoga and meditation centres to promote health tourism in Nepal, Prachanda added that a policy decision has already been taken in this regard.
