An unknown man found a baby in Oaklands Drive in Dawncrest at the base of a dam next to a stream in the area of a soccer court while picking mangoes.

When the man discovered the baby, the temperature was around 28 degrees. A bag full of nappies and milk bottles, along with a note that the mother said to be written, was kept beside the tiny baby girl.

The letter written by the baby’s mother explained that she made several attempts to contact social workers but was let down by the system.

The mother then abandoned the baby girl and added that she tried to abort her child when she came to know that she was expecting a baby. She said that She had no option rather than giving birth to the child due to strict rules across the nation.

In addition, she requested that authorities be informed when the baby is located. The man then contacted his employer, who asked Reaction Unit SA to be called out to the scene.

On arrival, Reaction Officers pointed out the location of the discovery and handed over the child and the bag.

A female Officer & Medics were called to the scene, and the child’s wet diaper was changed. The baby girl was then fed with a bottle of milk. Medics examined the infant, aged approximately three months and found her in good health.

A criminal case of Child Abandonment will be registered & Reaction Officers will seek assistance to identify the child or mother.

If any can assist with the identification, kindly contact 086 1234 333 (RUSA).
