The Police department of Memphis shared an update report on their official Facebook account, which stated that a man was sentenced in desoto county, Winchester road and Kirby Parkway on Friday, February 24 2023.
They also added that one of their officers answered a call on August 13, 2019, at 3:26 am for additional units at Winchester Road and Kirby Drive. On Lt Hopkins, they informed Ridgeway station officers by air that an old white Cadillac CTS had approached him. The driver suggested to Lt Hopkins that he would set the small girl on fire in the back seat and run west on Winchester Road.
The man approached the agents in a parking lot and told them Lt Hopkins would set the child on fire, and then he ran away. Officers located the vehicle, verified that the child was in the car, and pursued. The chase led into Mississippi, and officers continued due to the threats of harm to the girl.
The car was found at the 4600 block of Tacoma place in Olive Branch, Mississippi. As officers addressed the vehicle to take the accused into custody, he rose again. The accused person rest the girl in the 4100 block of La Paloma Lane, where officers could recover her safely. The accused bumped through near yards and hit two squad cars, injuring two officers. The suspect fled on foot, hiding behind the house. The girl’s mother could locate the man, place him in custody, and identify him as Jeremy Manning.
The officers verified that the girl had been kidnapped and was able to reunite her with relatives. Manning was turned over to Desoto County as the kidnapping and arrest occurred in Mississippi. The officers were awarded a Medal of Valor for saving the life of a little girl, In 2020.
On the other hand, they added that Lt Colonel Badgett, Lt. Hopkins, Officer Hibler, Officer Self, Lieutenant Colonel Badgett, Officers Hopkins, Hibler, Self, Butler Johnson, and Hightower were all involved.
The Memphis Police Department was informed on February 17, 2023, that Jeremy Manning had been given a 28-year prison term for his crimes.
