The Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau Central in Dominica, Melissa Skerrit, congratulated Adicia Burton for securing the crown of Miss Dominica 2023 which was held on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Melissa Skerrit felt delighted and said, “Adicia, you did it again!”
The Minister took to Facebook to congratulate her and said, “A resounding round of applause goes to the winner, our 2023 Miss Dominica, representing the Kalinago Territory and Roseau Central’s Miss Kalinago Queen Adicia Burton. Her beauty, elegance, poise and intelligence were undeniable on the stage.”
Melissa Skerrit said that all the contestants did a fantastic job, but only one could wear the crown in the end and added, “Adicia, you deserve this indisputable win! Congratulations to you and the chaperone team Letitia Butler.”
Following the victory of Burton, several people raised the question about Melissa Skerrit that she supported only one contestant and not others, to which she replied very honestly through her official Facebook account.
The Minister said, “One should understand that I wear multiple hats within the political arena. Yes, I am the Prime Minister’s wife; however, I am also the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau Central Constituency. Every Carnival, the respective Parliamentary Representatives rally behind their own, and this year was surely no exception.”
She added that since Roseau Central did not have a representative in this year’s pageant, she chose to pledge her support and rally the support of fellow constituents for Ms Adicia Burton. Adicia Burton is the reigning Miss Kalinago Roseau Central Queen. Similarly, while pursuing this prestigious title, she stood with the former Miss Dominica, Ms Savahnn James from Roseau Central.
“As the Roseau Central Parliamentary Representative, I make no apologies for my stance, and we will continue to support our own while bearing no ill will to any of the other beautiful and talented young ladies,” concluded the Minister.
