Liz Truss: World Leaders extend congratulatory wishes to newly elected PM of UK

Liz Truss has been announced the conqueror of the Conservative Party election and will succeed Boris Johnson as the UK’s Prime Minister.

Truss defeated her fellow contender Rishi Sunak by more than 20,000 votes as she received 81,326 votes while Indian-origin Rishi Sunak got 60,399 votes.

After Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May, Liz Truss will be the third woman Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. At the same time, the key Cabinet will not see the White man for the first time this year.

Former UK Prime Minister and member of Conservative party Boris Johnson congratulated the newly elected leader Liz Truss on Twitter.

Boris Johnson added, “I know she has the right plan to tackle the cost of living crisis, unite our party and continue the great work of uniting and levelling up our country.”

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has hailed Liz Truss for being elected as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On his Twitter handle, Scholz said he is looking “forward” to the cooperation between UK and Germany in these challenging times.

He added, “The UK and Germany will continue to work closely together as partners and friends.”

European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Liz Truss on being elected as UK’s Prime Minister.

Ursula von der Leyen stated that she looks forward to a “constructive relationship” between the bloc and Britain. She called EU and UK partners, and Leyen stressed that the EU and UK face challenges like climate transition and Russia’s offensive in Ukraine.

Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, has wished Liz Truss to be elected as the new Conservative leader and Prime Minister of Britain. In a tweet, Albanese said, “I look forward to a continued constructive relationship and friendship between our nations and people.”
