Girvan, renowned for its welcoming atmosphere towards furry friends, has proudly earned a place in the finals of the UK Dog-Friendly Awards 2023 in the highly contested Town/City category.
Voted by the public, Girvan stands among the top three dog-friendly towns and cities in the UK, sharing the spotlight with Bury St Edmunds and Eastbourne in this prestigious recognition, marking the 11th edition of the acclaimed Dog-Friendly Awards.
Celebrated for its award-winning dog-friendly beach and picturesque walking trails, Girvan has long been a favourite among dog owners seeking a welcoming environment for their four-legged companions.
Yet, the local tourism organization, Go Girvan, aimed to elevate this experience, ensuring that visiting dogs and their owners feel even more embraced throughout the town.
Earlier this year, Go Girvan launched an innovative dog-friendly initiative, proving immensely popular among residents and tourists. Introducing a sticker scheme and a dedicated webpage has facilitated easy identification of places where dogs are welcome, with over 30 local businesses and attractions enthusiastically joining this initiative.
Expressing her delight, Susanne Arbuckle, Project Officer for Go Girvan, remarked, “I am thrilled that Girvan has advanced to the finals of this prestigious award. The fact that the public voted us in makes it even more meaningful.
Considering the initiative was only initiated this summer, this recognition is a testament to the remarkable effort put in to establish Girvan as a truly dog-friendly destination.”
The winning town, determined by the highest number of public votes, will be unveiled on the 29th of November during an awards ceremony held at the Kennel Club’s London Headquarters.
As anticipation builds, Girvan stands proudly among the contenders, a testament to the community’s dedication to embracing canine companions and creating an inviting environment for all.
