A double-decker bus has crashed into a shop near Manor Park Station in east London, prompting a swift emergency response and an investigation into the incident.
Emergency services were called to Station Road at about 09:00 GMT on Friday after reports of a collision involving a bus and a local shop. When responders arrived, they found the front of the vehicle embedded in the storefront.
Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that there were no passengers on board the route 474 bus at the time of the crash. The Metropolitan Police said no life-threatening or life-changing injuries had been reported. However, one person who was inside the shop at the time sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The driver of the bus, a woman, was also taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. Witnesses said she appeared to be in shock following the crash.
Shop owner Ninoshan Jeyaseelan, whose business bore the brunt of the impact, described the experience as “just insane.”
“We just had a big bang sort of thing and the person who was driving, she was under shock herself,” he told BBC London. “I don’t know how long it’s gonna take to recover from it.”
Despite the dramatic collision, Jeyaseelan said the shop had only suffered minor damage and expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt. “No one’s majorly injured you know – thank God,” he added.
Images from the scene show a man standing near the damaged bus in front of the shop, surrounded by debris and emergency personnel. The area was cordoned off as police and fire services worked to secure the site and assess the structural safety of the building.
A spokesperson for Transport for London issued an apology for the disruption and confirmed that an investigation was underway in coordination with Go-Ahead London, the bus operator.
“We’re very sorry for the damage and disruption caused when a route 474 bus collided with a shop building on Station Road,” the spokesperson said. “Thankfully, there were no passengers onboard the bus, however a customer in the shop at the time has sustained a minor injury. We have support available for anyone affected by this incident.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest the bus may have lost control before mounting the pavement, though no official cause has been confirmed.
The section of Station Road near Manor Park Station remained closed for several hours following the incident as authorities cleared the scene and inspected the damage.
