Dominica: President Charles Savarin travelled to the United Kingdom with First Lady of Dominica Clara Savarin to participate in the Coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The ceremony is ongoing at Westminster Abbey.

The Commonwealth of Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit felt happy about the country’s representation in the coronation ceremony and took to Twitter to express his delightness. The PM said that he was honoured that President Savarin has joined world leaders to attend the international and historical event.

Several other Caribbean leaders joined the massive event in the United Kingdom. All the leaders met with King Charles III before the ceremony and welcomed the King with open hands as the Commonwealth’s new leader.

Also, the leaders discussed some matters of mutual interest during the meeting, including the young population’s empowerment in the region, as this year is regarded as the Year of Youth.

King Charles III acquired the throne after the demise of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. As per the sources, the ceremony will begin at 11 am according to London time, following the arrival of the procession of the King and his wife at Westminster Abbey.

The United Kingdom and Dominica have good cordial relations, and Dominica has always benefitted under Queen Elizabeth II’s leadership as the Commonwealth head. Last year, when Queen Elizabeth II passed away, Dominica declared National Mourning for two days.

Other Caribbean leaders who are joining the historical ceremony are as follows:

Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne and spouse Maria Bird-Browne
The Bahamas: Prime Minister Philip Davis, former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham, former Prime Minister Perry Christie and Leader of the Opposition Michael Pintard
Belize: Governor-General Dame Froyla Tzalam
Dominica: President Charles Savarin and spouse
Grenada: Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell
Guyana: President Irfaan Ali
Jamaica: Governor General Sir Patrick Allen and Lady Allen
