The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, congratulated the Dominican cricketer Alick Athanaze who has been selected for the Senior Men’s West Indies Team. PM Skerrit said it is a momentous achievement for the whole country and young Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes Captain born and brought in the community of Grand Bay.
The PM added that the government, as well as the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, are highly proud and stand in complete support of Athanaze as he will be joining the regional side for the tour of South Africa, which starts off on February 28, 2023.
“Just off his first century during the regional First Class cricket earlier this month, Athanaze’s selection is yet another heartwarming moment for local cricket fans who have followed his rise over the years. We celebrate with him. Very best wishes for his continued success,” added PM Roosevelt Skerrit.
Athanaze is a Windward islander from Dominica and is a very impressive batsman. Athanaze followed in a line of exquisite cricketers from Dominica, the likes of the excited Irving Shillingford, speedster Grayson Shillingford, Allan Sandford, Lockhart Sébastien, Shane Shillingford, and Roy Marshall, to name few. West indies cricket needs that regional balance. Talents from every region transferred into one west indies are a great inspiration to all.
Furthermore, the Minister of Sports of Dominica, Oscar George, on behalf of the Ministry for Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, congratulate Alick Athanaze on his selection for the West Indies Men’s Cricket Team’s upcoming series against South Africa.
Oscar George said, “I congratulate his entire family and the community of Grand Bay by extension. I also want to acknowledge the contribution of Coach Sam for his hard work and dedication. This selection represents a significant milestone for us in Dominica. Let’s all support and encourage Alick on his tremendous accomplishment. His consistency, hard work and commitment signify a long and successful career. I wish Alick all the best as he goes out there to make us proud.”
