Dominica: PM Roosevelt Skerrit arrives in Bahamas for 44th CARICOM meeting

Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, arrived in the Bahamas on February 15, 2023, to participate in the 44th edition of the Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government. The conference will be held from February 15 to 17, 2023, in Nassau, The Bahamas.

The meeting is being hosted under the chairmanship of Philip Davis – the Prime Minister of the Bahamas. The CARICOM Single Market & Economy, Climate Change and Climate Finance, Agriculture & Food Security, and Health are among a few issues on the agenda to be discussed during the two-day event in the Bahamas.

The heads of government will be getting updates from CARICOM IMPACS, the Council for National Security, Law Enforcement, and the Special CARICOM Ministerial Task Force on Agriculture. They would reflect on the importance of the Region from the results of the recent COP27 Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, as well as the requirement for increased investment in energy security for member states of CARICOM.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is accompanied to the meeting by Dr Vince Henderson – the Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy. The Minister of Finance, Dr Irving McIntyre, is acting as Prime Minister till PM Skerrit is in the Bahamas.

Vice President of The Senate in The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Barry N. Griffin, received the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, as he arrived in the Bahamas.

The update was shared by Senator Griffin on his official Facebook account, who wrote, “Today, I had the pleasure of receiving Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica, Alva Baptiste, Foreign Affairs Minister of Saint Lucia as well several regional Ambassadors and Heads of multilateral organizations as they arrived in Nassau for the start of the CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting. We welcome all regional leaders to our shores as CARICOM and The Bahamas celebrate 50 years.”
