The House of Assembly conducted the first meeting of the 11th Parliament’s first session on February 7, 2023. The meeting was about improving Dominica in every way. This included making the country safer, improving agriculture, and building a solid infrastructure.

Miriam Balchand, the Minister of Public Works and Ports, said, “The data shows that government spending or investments boost economic activity in Dominica.” Miriam Balchand also said that Dominica’s economic growth is going in a good direction and is better than expected.

She also mentioned that the National Employment Program positively impacted the country’s employment scale. The program’s main goal was to teach young people different skills through public and private programs so they could have a steady source of income.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Irving McIntyre, talked about the changes to several acts and said that the allocated amount for Dominica’s development had been used to speed up the work of many operations in the country.

Dr. McIntyre said that the current government had taken several steps, including the E-passport initiative, which is very important because it adds a second layer of security and encourages all Dominicans to get their E-passport.

According to agriculture minister Roland Royer, new farming equipment will help farmers be more effective in their farming methods. He also mentioned building an agricultural complex, which will make it easier to research and develop various species and find new approaches to boosting the nation’s agricultural productivity.

Octavia Alfred, minister for education, emphasized the significance of education and mentioned the ten million dollar expenditure necessary for all Dominica Grammar School projects.
