The Housing Minister of Dominica, Melissa Skerrit, urges citizens and residents to participate in DIY Hurricane Preparedness Initiative. Under this initiative, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will provide essential supplies that allow residents to enhance the resilience of their properties and safeguard their families during the upcoming 2023 hurricane season.
While announcing the initiative through her official Facebook account, Melissa Skerrit said, “DIY Hurricane Preparedness Initiative – Strengthening your homes to protect your family. Ensure that your home is adequately secured! Contact your constituency representative for distribution information.”
DIY Hurricane Preparedness Initiative ensures that citizens’ home is adequately secured. The initiative runs until June 30, 2023, while the stocks last.
Melissa Skerrit added that as the hurricane season is nearing, it is significant for Dominicans to take proactive steps in strengthening their homes and ensuring the safety of their loved ones.
To avail the supplies under the DIY Hurricane Preparedness Initiative, the Ministry has announced an eligibility criterion to be followed, which asks that the applicants:
- Must be residents of the Commonwealth of Dominica
- Must be committed to actively participating in this initiative
- Must be willing to comply with all relevant building codes and regulations
- Must Have access to the major tools or human resources to install the materials themselves
- Must be willing to provide feedback or participate in evaluating and monitoring activities
In order to apply, applicants must obtain the necessary forms either from a Ministry of Housing and Urban Development office or a constituency office. The Housing Minister is doing all in her hands to protect the country and its citizens during this Hurricane Season.
She also wants to safeguard the properties as a lot of investment has already been made in the reconstruction and construction of several infrastructures in Dominica after Hurricane Maria caused massive destruction in the country. Melissa Skerrit is committed to working hard and bringing development to the small island nation.
