The local district Council in Derbyshire called Derbyshire Dales is focusing on the recovery operation following a flood called Storm Babet this weekend in West Derbyshire, England. The Council is initially focusing on clearing roads of debris in partnership with the County Council.
The Derbyshire Dales Clean & Green Team worked on this in Ashbourne, Kniveton, Carsington, Wirksworth and Baslow Yesterday, October 23, 2023. While the County Council have focused on Rowsley, Cromford, Matlock Bath and Darley Bridge.
Today, the focus will be on Baslow, Ashford-in-the-Water, Stoney Middleton and Bradwell. The Council also urged people to maintain a degree of patience and understanding if the teams haven’t yet managed to get to their area.
The Derbyshire Council could not directly support residents with disposing of flood-damaged items such as white goods and carpets. Therefore, they informed people that they would communicate more on this towards the end of this week.
They also thanked the local community and constituents for understanding.
The Met Office recently issued a yellow weather warning for rain in our area, with a 10/20mm forecast across the East Midlands from tonight into Tuesday. Up to 50mm could fall in some parts of the region.
The Derbyshire Dales shared that the chances of a repeat of last weekend’s impacts are relatively low. They informed about messages from partner agencies, including the emergency services, alerting them to stay prepared and vigilant.
They also reinstated their flood helpline number, 01629 761167, from Yesterday at 10 pm. This will be staffed through the night into tomorrow, and our flood response teams will again be on standby.
Earlier, the Derbyshire Council also provided some more updates regarding damages caused by Storm Babet. They shared about closing public toilets in Baslow this week for repairs. The Council apologise for any inconvenience caused. They also ensured people that they would work as quickly as possible.
