Proximus, a Belgian telecom firm, plans to provide internet service with a speed of up to 10 Gbps by this year, which is around ten times faster than the current top speed on the Belgian market.

Moreover, the telecom company will set up an internet subscription with a theoretical speed of 10 Gbps on the market for the consumers and companies by the end of this year.

According to CEO Guillaume Boutin, with this transformation, the company wants to show its superiority in terms of the network by upgrading the equipment and speed of the internet.

As per the reports, currently, not every user on the Proximus fibre-optic network will be able to access the top speed immediately as this offer will not be available to all customers at the beginning. To avail high speed of the internet, one needs a new router, and new WiFi boosters are required for the top speeds.

In addition, Boutin said that the company had not decided yet what the prices would be or which locations would be the first to benefit from faster internet, but “the end of 2022 is still a long way off.

Furthermore, for those who value affordability over speed, Proximus is launching a new internet subscription called Internet Essential, which costs €25 per month and includes 100 GB of storage space and 50 Mbps download speed.

Meanwhile, the company also stated that the formula replaces Internet Start, which costs €27.5. Customers who only have a fibre optic cable will also be able to subscribe, but they will have to be patient for a few more months.

There are around three licensed Mobile Network Operators in Belgium Proximus (Belgacom), Orange Belgium (Orange S.A.) and Telenet/Base and numerous mobile virtual network operators (MVNO).
