Beeston Neighbourhood Policing team jails Mark Diuk for five counts of shoplifting

Nottinghamshire, England: The Beeston Neighbourhood Policing team within Nottinghamshire Police jailed a prolific shoplifter who brazenly stole from a number of stores. Mark Diuk, aged 35, targeted supermarkets in Clifton and Beeston, where he stole items, including laundry and cleaning products, coffee and boxes of chocolates.

He swiped the items in full view of shoppers and was abusive to shop staff who approached him. Diuk was jailed for 20 weeks when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (7 February 2023) and was convicted of five counts of shop theft.

Inspector Karl Thomas, the district commander for Nottingham South, which includes Clifton, said: “Diuk is a prolific shoplifter who has caused serious issues for a number of local stores.

“He has repeatedly walked into shops and made no attempt to hide the fact he was grabbing items from shelves and leaving without paying. I am pleased the court has given Diuk a custodial sentence, and I hope this sends a clear message that we take shoplifting and associated crime very seriously.”

Diuk, of no fixed abode, was arrested on 6 February after thefts at Heron Foods, in Southchurch Drive, Clifton, and at the Co-op, in Queen’s Road, Beeston, were reported to the police.

He stole laundry products from Heron Foods on 1 January, jars of coffee from the same store on 6 January and confectionary when he returned to the shop on 12 January. Diuk had earlier stolen from Beeston Co-op on 30 December 2022, where he took laundry products valued at £100.
