The A421 at the Marston Moretaine Interchange in Bedfordshire will reopen on Monday morning after being closed for two weeks due to severe flooding.
The road had been shut down since September 22, following an unprecedented rainfall event that brought a month’s worth of rain in just 48 hours, resulting in substantial water accumulation and damage.
National Highways crews faced an enormous challenge as they worked tirelessly to remove the excess water. In total, they pumped out a staggering 72 million litres (15.9 million gallons) from the roadways.
